Photobox ImageSo it's been a big music weekend, and quite a while since we've been to the Yucca. Tonight was Shelby's gig there. We'd expected it to be the new band, up until a few hours before. Instead Shelby was solo with DJ Dana spinning tracks between sets, which seemed like a good way to wind down from the weekend. Valley Fever, Sunday night, nothing too out of the ordinary can happen, can it?

Photobox ImageIt was a good turn out, and it was quite enjoyable seeing Shelby, and the set included a bunch of great new songs that not even we've heard yet. Great set and seemed like what I would have expected, a nice way to wrap up the rock n' roll weekend. We stuck around after Shelby's set (which we, and I think he also thought was his last set). I ducked outside for a smoke as Dana fired up the LP's again, and an influx of people, obviously from the Sunday Night Healers gig, including a good portion of the Healers. And hence followed one of those magical Yucca nights. What I'm dubbing this time as Shelby James & Los Ghetto Sugar Thieves. After a few more songs solo, up on the stage with Shelbs were Norman, Marc Zubia, PC, Mike, Merideth Moore, Corey Gloden, Terry Garvin and Pete Gonzales in several different configurations, resulting in an amazing jam. As is the case whenever that happens, it just left you in awe of what was going on on the stage in front of you.

So much for the gig to "wind down" from the weekend - the night turned out to be just as exciting as the other nights this week.
