I Wonder Where I'll Be In 10 Years

Fizzy Fizzy Big & Buzzy Turns 10

Where has the time gone? Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy (The Refreshments) was released 10 years ago today. It's hard to believe it's been 10 years. I didn't quite know of The Refreshments 10 years ago (I would have heard of them sometime in March 1996, and probably heard Fizzy for the first time closer to the middle of the year).

I can still remember the first time I heard the record. Well, in particular, the second time. All I remember about the first listen was not particularly being blown away - this was literally right after the Gin Blossoms's Dusted for the first time ever, so - some stiff competition there, definately. However, I do remember the second time clearly, in bed later that night. Somehow getting over the extacy that was listening to Dusted, and listening to Fizzy a second time, this time noticing in particular, Mr. Brian Blush, and his nods to Doug Hopkins. This was the first time (in a line of others that followed) I heard someone play reminicent of Doug's style. I think that second time I virtually only listened to the guitar lines. (Though, I do have a vague memory of the hookers and lost erections from Mexico standing out on that second listen also). That sold me on The Refreshments. The witty and often hilarious lyrics that I soon noticed just made it better. From thereon, the album became one of my favorites, and still is to this day. It also sounds as fresh as it did 10 years ago.

I'd love to have a dollar for everytime I've played Fizzy over the past 10 years.

I've got the pistols, so I'll keep the pesos, and that sounds fair!

Infinite counted by ones
It'll drive a man insane
Let's go out havin' some fun
Well I sit down and start to complain
But I don't wanna hear it again
Blah blah blah
Ahhhhh, where would we be without mighty Dead Hot...

The truth was never good as good as they told it where the streets are Sesame.

New Reign Kings Track

The Reign Kings have a new track out, Sunshine Suicide. I like it, I like it a lot. The only other Reign Kings songs that I think I know is Counting Sundays, which I don't mind, but isn't my favorite song of all time either. Sunshine Suicide is great however. Interesting a lot more youthful than most things that Brian Blush is involved in. Would be fairly popular with the kids I think.

"You're sugar and cyanide, when I think about you" - Great lyric!

Ahhhh, another phone call from a Scotty Johnson show - my favorite kind! I love when Katie goes to Scotty, because 80% of the time it means I'm going to get to hear it.

Does Anybody Know?
Beautiful Day
Demons Inside
Lost And Found
Chrous
Need Your Love
Think I'm In
Suicidal Advocacy
Fulsom Prison Blues
Better Beautiful Than Perfect

It's interesting hearing the usual lyrics of Demons Inside, verses the "Red daemon, let Josh free" that I'm so used to.

And Scotty's rendision of Fulsom was great. "I hear that train coming, down Mill Avenue". - Love it.

Peace.

Valentine's Day

Today I've read nothing but negativity about today's "hallmark holiday". Admitadly it "nothing but" is two online posts, funnily enough both saying almost the same thing, but still certainly a fair dose of cynisism about today.

I can't disagree more. While I can relate with the sentiment that you shouldn't need a special day to express your love, I think Valentine's Day is great. A common theme also it being about seperating haves from have nots. I've never felt that way about Valentine's Day, even when I was a have not. It's interesting looking back 15+ years ago, and how I always saw Valentine's Day with future optimism and excitment of being a has, than pessimism of being a has not.

Saint Valentine is alright by me. Always has been, probably always will be.

A nice Valentine treat this afternoon was hearing Scotty & Troy (from Yucca's Monday night Open Mic Night) on the way home. Get Drunk, Chorus and Stop! I've got a great Valentine, what can I say? It was also a really great afternoon / dusk to be out in the world, to boot.

This is the first time I've seen something great that had anything to do with American Idol. Hilarious, having seen the original (linked at the end of the flash movie) about a year ago.

The reason 'A' is my favorite Dead Hot Workshop song...

Walked from here to hell today
Where she pulls her friend aside
I'm every heart that had to break
I gave you my cigarette for a ride
Don't confuse yourself
If it don't mean anything

I'm gonna get me some peace some day
Guess I missed the boat and the cradle stopped rocking
From the womb I'm a new born baby
Is the light of day any better than that?
Tell me I'm not alone

I'm not too tired for sleepin'
Fast alseep and I'm not dreaming
I look for truth in abberation
Sinned to much to be forgiven

Walked from hell to here today
World is young as it is wild
For every step you plan to take
I plan to walk another mile
Don't confuse yourself
If it don't mean anything

I'm gonna get me some peace some day
Guess I missed the boat and the cradle stopped rocking
From the womb I'm a still born baby
Is your light of day any better than that?
Tell me I'm not alone

I'm too tired for sleepin'
Fast alseep and I'm not dreaming
I look for truth in abberation
Sinned to much to be forgiven
Sick and tired of just surviving
What's it take to make a living?
I've been to drink but I'm still drivin'
Sinned to much to be forgiven
I guess the fact that it's the best musically also is a factor, but...

I'm gonna get me some peace some day...

The latest word on the street is that the new Gin Blossoms is slated for release in May. Yes, right in time for me to pick it up when in Tempe. [smile]

Which of course, reminds me of last year, and the suggestion that it'd be released in April, and how cool it'd be to have it released while I was there. Pretty cool to be in a similar position this year.

Here we go again now, here we go again now...
